Classic Private
Detection
Author: Sasvári, Rudolf

ISBN: 963 00 3189 2
Rudolf Sasvari’s book was published in May 2000 and quickly filled a gap: private detectives were not allowed to operate in Hungary for more than half a century, and in this book, the author established the basics of the profession after the ban on private investigation was lifted in 1995. Moreover, it was the first book published in Hungary – and probably in the whole of Europe – that deals with this topic in a scientific manner.
The textbook consists of three chapters. The first one covers the history of private detection in Europe, the second one deals with the principles and tactical methods of investigation and data gathering, while the third one shows the specifics of different types of cases.
When writing the second chapter, the author used truly classical disciplines: criminal methodology and criminal tactics, philosophical epistemology and logic, plus the psychology of cognition.
The author acquired the knowledge for the methodology of data gathering as a counter-intelligence officer for two decades, while his practical, hands-on advice on private investigation come from his experiences as a private detective.
The book – whose foreword was written by dr. Tihamér Tóth, secretary of Hungarian Detective Association and member of the International Federation of Associations of Private Detectives – is a unique and indispensable work on the Hungarian market.
